The City Council reinforces the service to guarantee cleaning during Easter Week and Spring Festivals (15/04/2019)

The City of Murcia has provided an extraordinary street cleaning service for the celebrations of Easter and Spring Festival, which will mean the increase of 113 extraordinary days of operators and 48 of machinery, which are added to the usual device.

The Councilor for Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, Rebeca Pérez, today detailed the special plan launched by the City Council, together with the concessionaire Ferrovial Urban Services of Murcia, to reinforce cleaning in the city on these dates so indicated in those that are lived especially on the street, both for the processional parades and to attend the many events of the Spring Festival program.

The need to establish a special system for these days is a consequence of the increase in normal activity in the city and the greatly increased waste generated.

If a normal day the cleaning services collect an average of 12 or 15 tons of waste, the day of the Bando de la Huerta can exceed 87 tons and more than 40 tons after the Burial of the Sardine.

"It is a great challenge, but we multiply the resources and with the collaboration of all, we can enjoy cleanly our parties," stresses the councilor.

These complementary tasks to the ordinary service have been planned in order to take even more care of the image of the city, and, at the same time, ensure that the route and the areas of influence of the processions are left as soon as possible in optimal cleaning conditions, once the parades are over.

The reinforcement cleaning teams, both in the neighborhoods and in districts, will begin their work approximately one hour after the beginning of the procession so that the streets look clean as soon as possible.

In the districts a special service of review prior to the parades has been foreseen and during normal service hours the cleaning of its roads will be carried out.

Increased influx, more needs

As in previous years, it will be easy to collect waxes to place on the candles, inviting their use to avoid spillage on the pavement.

In this way, in addition to simplifying the cleaning work, possible accidents among pedestrians are avoided.

"Our goal is for the city to show its best image during these days, responding to the needs of the largest influx of people on the street, in addition to facilitating the task to the brotherhoods, we must be prepared so that the services work perfectly, both at Easter and Spring Festival, and, as always, counting on the collaboration of citizens.
