Serrano wants to move public schools to the 21st century (13/04/2019)

The Socialist candidate meets with FAMPA Murcia, which is exemplified by the investments of municipal boards, chaired by the PSOE, who have spent between 7% and 15% of their budget on repairs, while the City Council only 0 ,two%

The socialist candidate for the Mayor of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano, has met with the heads of the Federation of Associations of Mothers and Parents of Students of the Municipality of Murcia, in order to exchange information and contrast opinions on the priorities that exist to face more urgently in educational centers.

"I start from the idea that most of the public schools of the municipality are sorry, I have visited some, for example, that of La Purísima-Barriomar, and I could not believe the conditions in which it was, but in general our centers , some with asbestos elements or little accessible, suffer from lack of sufficient electrical power to put into operation an electronic board or an air conditioner, something that I find incredible in the times in which we live, "says Serrano.

For this reason, FAMPA Murcia has communicated its intention to execute an investment plan, with its participation, "is well designed and feasible to correct those deficiencies that, with more will than money, would favor a development of the lective activity with more resources and higher quality ".

In this sense, Serrano explained that the City Council spends around one million euros on repairs, that is, "0.2% of the municipal budget, while a municipal board such as Aljucer, chaired by the PSOE, with 270,000 euros budget, has invested 70,000 euros, 7% of the total, which is a button that shows the conviction of the socialists by the public school.

In other municipal boards, also presided over by the PSOE, such as Nonduermas, the investment also reaches 7%, while in Guadeloupe it has spent around 80,000 euros, which has meant 9% of its total budget.

The case of Cabezo de Torres is more remarkable, since the cost in schools amounts to around 62,000 euros for each year of this mandate, between 12% and 15% of its budget.

"They are indisputable investments and very well made, but while we load the districts with the repairs of their schools, the City Council makes a minimum effort, and it is fair that this expense be assumed by local administration to free the municipal boards in order that can allocate that money to other needs, "says Serrano.

Also, the candidate has reported other measures that will be in the program as the creation of more places from 0 to 3 years, especially to facilitate the reconciliation of work and family life, and holiday schools also in August that will be free for families whose income does not exceed the interprofessional minimum wage.

In addition, the program will collect second chance scholarships for students who want to return to study and guarantee others for dining and school supplies.

For Serrano, "although education is a regional competition, from the local administration we want an annual plan of reparations and investments, because if we talk about progress, the quality of teaching is paramount, and it is essential that our children they receive class in the best conditions, that they are happy to be in their school ".

The parents showed their interest in emotional intelligence programs, values, against absenteeism, health and "Educate to be", of the University of Murcia.

They talked about implanting school nurses, creating open centers and installing solar panels on covered school tracks.

For its part, Serrano has asked FAMPA Murcia for their collaboration, since the associations of fathers and mothers are the ones that have more precise and punctual information of the day to day in the educational centers, so "there must be a fluid correspondence so that the problems do not go on forever. "

This group of associations of mothers and fathers of the municipality of Murcia was created in 1998, is integrated into the CONFAPA and is a full member in the Municipal School Council of the City of Murcia.

Currently, it brings together some 80 federated AMPAs, which represent more than 100,000 associates, parents of the students of the public centers of the Municipality of Murcia.
