Consumo inspects this Christmas more than 700 establishments to guarantee the sanitary quality of the foods for sale (13/12/2018)

The Department of Commerce, Organization and Institutional Relations has launched two specific campaigns on food products demanded at Christmas.

One of them, of information to the consumer, and the other, of control and surveillance, with the aim of assuring the sanitary quality of the typical food products: meats and meat products, fish and fishery products, confectionery, confectionery and other Christmas sweets .

The information campaign aims to make a series of recommendations that must be taken into account when making the basket of the purchase with respect to the correct information on identification, labeling and prices of food products and the storage and conservation of food and characteristics of fish, molluscs, crustaceans, meats, sweets, nougat, marzipan and cavas.

As for the control and surveillance campaign, which began on November 11 and will continue until January 31, the Department of Commerce, Organization and Institutional Relations has arranged an operation, as in previous years, through the Consumer Inspection Service to increase inspections in establishments that sell food in order to check the food safety requirements of their facilities, the sanitary quality of the products they produce and sell and the documentation that supports the traceability of the same.

Although in previous years no significant anomalies have been detected, it is necessary to maintain control precisely at the time of greatest consumption.

Tagged and self-control

The campaign will emphasize the correct information on labeling, prices and, above all, the preservation of products through the maintenance of the cold chain.

Last year the inspectors carried out specific controls that included not only the temperature taking of the food exposed and stored, but also the verification that the establishments themselves perform efficient self-checks of their refrigerators by comparing the temperatures obtained by the calibrated thermometers of the inspection with which they mark the instruments of measurement of their refrigeration facilities.

And as for fish and shellfish, the self-control of the presence of a parasitic nematode of fish, anisakis, in the most affected species, and the presence of immature fish (pezqueñines) will also be verified.

The Consumer Food Safety Inspection Service will visit the retailers of the municipal food courts, supermarkets, supermarkets and supermarkets, as well as weekly and craft markets with sale of typical Christmas products.

Specifically, the campaign will affect 753 stores, distributed as follows:

- 178 establishments in the 8 municipal supply plazas:

- 34 fishmongers

- 48 butchers

- 27 delicatessens and salted fish

- 12 frozen

- 15 bakeries

- 42 greengrocers and vegetable stores

- Supermarkets and supermarkets: 125 establishments

- Weekly markets: 53 weekly markets with a total of approximately 450 seats

- Artisan markets with sale of typical Christmas food products.

Healthy, healthy and safe food

The Councilor for Trade, Organization and Institutional Relations, Maruja Pelegrín, explains that these measures are intended to "ensure the acquisition and consumption of healthy, healthy and safe food, and for this reason the City assumes sanitary control of establishments and food in the final stretch of the food chain, which is the marketing and sale '.

To do this, municipal veterinarians visit the establishments where they are checked if they meet the sanitary requirements required by legislation and check the sanitary quality, origin, exposure, conservation, labeling or identification and documentation of origin of the products exposed for sale.
