Murcia enters the international elite of Smart Cities and exposes its smart city project in Tokyo (13/12/2018)

The capital of the Region has been chosen one of the six cities of the world to exhibit its Smart model in the TRON Symposium of Japan, together with Amsterdam, Sapporo, Zurich, Tokyo and Yokosuka.

José Ballesta offers the presentation 'The future of our cities', in the framework of this world congress, which brings together in Tokyo hundreds of specialists and representatives of companies, corporations, laboratories, universities and administrations of the five continents.

Murcia has been chosen one of the six cities in the world to exhibit its smart city model in the TRON Symposium of Japan, the international meeting of technological development in which the capital of the Region has presented its Smart City project together with five other cities cities: Amsterdam, Sapporo, Zurich, Tokyo and Yokosuka.

Murcia thus enters the international elite of Smart Cities with its participation in this congress that brings together leading specialists and representatives of the various companies, corporations, laboratories, universities and administrations of the five continents, which takes place from December 12 to 14 , in the Tokyo Midtown Hall.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, invited by the Governor of the Metropolitan Area of ​​Tokyo, Yuriko Koike, offered today, in the framework of this world congress, the presentation 'The future of our cities', an intervention in which he made known the main lines of the Murcia 2020 City Strategy and the 'MiMurcia' smart city project and in which the representatives of the cities of Amsterdam, Sapporo, Zurich, Tokyo and Yokosuka also presented their successful models.

The City of Murcia is a benchmark for technological innovation applied to cities, after being the maximum beneficiary, in competitive competition, among 111 cities in Spain, in the 'II Call for Smart Cities' of the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda of the Government of Spain, with a budget of 8 million euros.

At the service of people

"From this municipal Corporation we believe that technology can not only make the city more efficient and more sustainable, but also more equitable and equal, breaking down social, cultural and other barriers.

Therefore, our concept of Smart City is to put these technological advances at the service of people to improve their quality of life and the benefits of the public services they receive, "said José Ballesta.

During this international forum, the City Council reproduced a video in Japanese about the more than 300 intelligent systems that the 'MiMurcia' project will integrate in different parts of the city in the coming years.

The project, for which 9 consortia have opted, among the most important national and international technology companies, will be awarded next January by Red.es.

The R & D of the UMU reaches the capital of world technology

The mayor has been accompanied by the team from the University of Murcia that coordinates the Murcia Smart City project scientifically, led by Antonio Skarmeta, professor of Telematics Engineering and coordinator of international and strategic projects at the UMU.

Professor Skarmeta, responsible for the implementation of the 'MiMurcia' project, presented in this international forum the advances of the Technological Research and Development project, Cpaas.io (City Platforms as a Service, Integrated and Open) that has been carried out by the University of Murcia in collaboration with the Universities of Tokyo (Japan), Bern (Switzerland) and Surrey (United Kingdom).

An intelligent platform that develops smart cities projects and advanced services for cities (smart parking, smart building, smart water and the deployment of advanced technologies for the Internet of Things).

The Tron 2018 Symposium gathers these days in the capital of Japan to outstanding business representatives of the technological sector, laboratories, universities, administrations, etc.

who are collaborating in the implementation of new smartcity services around the world and that will have their practical application in the Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo in 2020. Among the sponsors of the TRONSHOW are leading companies such as Google, Toshiba, NEC and Fujitsu, as well as the IEEE (Electrical Engeeniering Institute), one of the largest engineering and computer associations in the world.
