Let's change Murcia accuses Ballesta of opening the door of the City Hall to López Rejas to promote his project in La Paz (12/12/2018)

The spokesman of the municipal group Cambiemos Murcia, Nacho Tornel, has refused today to participate in the meeting convened by the government team on the rehabilitation of La Paz after knowing that it would attend the promoter José López Rejas, and has accused the mayor , José Ballesta, to laugh at all the working families and to "open the door" to the businessman to the City Council so that he can carry out his urban plans in the neighborhood.

Tornel recalled that the Town Planning Councilor, Antonio Javier Navarro, said in the constitution of the Working Committee for the rehabilitation of La Paz that would repeal the Special Plan that gave way to the project of Lopez Rejas, whose expenditure is 443 million euros and a forecast of profit margin of 36 million through the sale of homes, as it is "unfeasible" from the economic point of view.

"However now, almost two years after that announcement, Navarro brings to the table in which the government team and the opposition groups are present to a businessman with speculative direct interests in that project who wants to appropriate the land in which many working families have lived and live, with the sole objective of enriching themselves at their expense and expelling them from their neighborhood without guarantees, "he said.

For the spokesman of the municipal group, the role of the mayor and the Town Planning Councilor has been to "help the promoter wait for better times", that is, to "lessen the effects of the crisis" to "open the door" and ensure "a triumphant return" while the municipal groups believed that the efforts went in the opposite direction, and "without caring what is fundamental, which are the people who reside in the neighborhood."

"Both public officials, when they held the position of public works counselor and director general of housing, respectively, and endorsed this initiative, so their action is now consistent with what they supported at the time."

He also added that if Navarro "has not been able to prevent the passage of a businessman with particular interests to the meeting, Let's change Murcia will not act as a complacent actor."

"A little dignity does not hurt," he concluded.
