Murcia prepares for the cold drop by reinforcing the number of firemen and police (19/10/2018)

Firefighters increase their strength by 75% and Local Police allocate 75 agents for the Special Plan for Floodplains, which add to the operations of ordinary services.

Civil Protection, SEMAS, Aguas de Murcia, the lighting services, cleaning, urban planning and parks and gardens will remain on alert and will work coordinated throughout the weekend.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, has convened an urgent meeting this morning in which he has addressed the special security device before the warning by cold drop that the State Meteorological Agency has declared in Murcia from today night until tomorrow at noon.

"The AEMET has lowered the warning level from orange to yellow between 00.00 today and 12.00 tomorrow, but from the City Council we will act as if it were orange, because the forecasts vary hour by hour and it is advisable to reinforce all measures of security ", the alderman pointed out.

"Police forces in the city and districts have been reinforced and 75 agents will be exclusively in charge of attending the Special Plan for Floodplains that we have activated;

to which must be added the active agents in the ordinary services (room, attestations, patrimony ...).

As for the Firemen, the usual 35 will be added 25 more, that is, 75% more staff, doubling the room operators and equipment.

Civil Protection will also mobilize 25 people tonight, which tomorrow will be 31, "reported José Ballesta.

At the work meeting, attended by councilors of the Government team, the coordination mechanism between the Murcia Fire Department, Local Police, Civil Protection, Aguas de Murcia, the lighting, cleaning, urban planning, parks and gardens, and the Mobile Emergency and Social Care Service (SEMAS).

The Social Services have prepared three emergency mobile teams and a device that includes mats and food in case it is necessary to evacuate.

Aguas de Murcia will mobilize 48 people in this special emergency device, which will be active all weekend.

Parks and Gardens will provide 31 extraordinary staff.

Cleaning will have 100% of its usual staff active, who will review and act to clean crawls and flooded areas.

The device also includes the coordination of the public lighting personnel and the construction department, with all their machinery and operating cranes, as well as the public transport service (tram and buses), with which they will work in a coordinated manner.

Information updated 24 hours a day

It will provide updated information throughout today and tomorrow, on the incidents that occur, road cuts and rain warnings through the Twitter channel of the Local Police (@MurciaPolicia), which will be active 24 hours. "

It is important in these hours in which the alert remains activated, do not use private vehicles, do not cross the ravines or streets with water, respect the cut points and not establish vehicles in flood zones, according to the Local Police of Murcia.
