Infrastructure launches a campaign to end the abandonment of furniture and equipment on public roads (18/10/2018)

The waste removal service is free, accessible, simple and effective and can be requested by phone, Internet or social networks.

Leaving the belongings in the streets, besides deteriorating the image of the city, supposes an incivil behavior that is also sometimes dangerous due to the type of waste they deposit.

The Murcian have at their disposal a free, efficient, simple and at the door of their home to get rid of furniture, furniture and bulky.

Dialing a telephone number (900 511 133), arranging the collection day and leaving it in the indicated place are the only steps that must be taken to deposit this waste in a responsible and respectful way with the environment and with other citizens because, if it is used well, the equipment is barely a few hours on public roads.

Reducing as much as possible its presence in undue locations and increasing the efficiency of the free service is the objective pursued by the City Council with the awareness campaign launched by the Department of Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, directed by Rebeca Pérez, together with the concessionaire company, Ferrovial Servicios.

'In Murcia we call 900 511 133 before leaving our belongings' is the message that we want to transfer to Murcia to, with their collaboration, improve the image of the municipality and encourage good practices in self-management of waste at home, increasing the good use of the Ecopark and the free collection service.

Although it has been in operation for many years, "it remains a great unknown to many people, who choose to throw their belongings anywhere, producing a nefarious image of the city," says Rebeca Pérez.

After the campaigns carried out in recent months regarding pet droppings or batteries, now comes the turn to these waste.

Citizen collaboration

'It is true that more and more residents are aware of the selective collection and care of our streets, but we have to continue working together in this task', explains Rebeca Pérez, who also stresses that on many occasions' the neighbors are precisely the who complain about how annoying this uncivil behavior is, which not only makes the environment look bad, but also is sometimes dangerous because of the type of waste they deposit. '

Therefore, citizen collaboration is also relevant since any person who observes such misconduct can report it to the Local Police because leaving furniture or equipment on the street or public spaces is classified as a serious violation of the municipal ordinance, with a Expected penalty of € 151 to € 6,000.

24 hours and 365 days to request it

The established system is simple and has several communication channels, to use the most convenient one: by telephone, by contacting the telephone 900 511 133, 24 hours a day, during all the days of the year, through www.murciaciudadsostenible.es or using the social networks associated with this page.

The eco-park is also available, located in the Western Industrial Park.

Citizen collaboration is essential to maintain the city in the best conditions, because 'it is useless to allocate resources to this service, if then a mattress, sofas, boards, etc. are left next to a container.

sometimes just after the collection has been made at that point brief moments before. '

65% increase

The voluminous collection service and equipment works since the beginning in Murcia for waste collection.

In 2017, 4,656 tons were obtained, while in the first nine months of this year 3,945 tons were already collected, that is, an increase in collection of 65.77%.

Meanwhile, in 2014, 1,998 tons, 2,500 tons in 2015 and 3,320 tons in 2016 were collected.

On the other hand, between January and September 15 of this year, 27,465 incidents of furniture collection were generated, of which 5,075 correspond to citizen calls and the rest 22,390 incidences created by the operators themselves after detecting them on public roads.

This figure has increased compared to the same period in 2017, when 2,700 calls and 16,300 incidents were recorded.

Expansion of the service

To further facilitate the use of this service, the City has launched an extension of it in neighborhoods and districts.

In the latter, where this task is performed on alternate days from Monday to Saturday, with a device consisting of 3 operators with an open-box vehicle and platform, an operator is now added with a vehicle.

In the city, a new route is created from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. which increases the existing service, with an operator with an auxiliary vehicle at night and two operators in the morning, from Monday to Saturday.
