The PSOE press for the construction of the new library of El Palmar in charge of the 14 million enabled at his proposal (23/09/2018)

The spokesperson of the Municipal Socialist Group, Susana Hernández, visits the parish together with the PSOE member in the Board Javier Robles and checks the poor state of a center that is small, not very accessible and has a year without address and without programming activities.

For this reason, it will ask the Plenary to cover said place urgently and that this equipment be provided with more books and material.

The municipal library of El Palmar, located on Pelagio Ferrer street and which is the only one in a hamlet with more than 23,000 inhabitants, is a building dating from 1984, which was obviously small and has many discomforts for its users for years.

Not in vain, it is a property, in addition to small dimensions, very little accessible, it has no elevator and you have to climb a steep staircase to access the first and second floors.

To top it all, in this center, in which four people will develop their work, they have a year without direction and without programming activities, such as storytelling, workshops and meetings with authors, something that has already been transferred to the Councilor for Education , Rafael Gómez, and the head of the service.

The information that comes to us is that this situation has caused that last year they stopped receiving books for the library fund valued at around 3,000 euros and on Monday will stop receiving the game for this year, which is around 4,000, because that day the deadline for requesting books ends.

The spokesperson of the Municipal Socialist Group, Susana Hernández, visited this week the installation accompanied by the PSOE member in the Municipal Board of El Palmar Javier Robles and has known firsthand the limitations with which employees work and the difficulties they endure who go to the library to read a book, browse the daily press or study.

"Anyone who simply goes with a baby cart to this place is forced to leave the chair next to the stairs and climb on foot with the child in his arms, it is not acceptable that this happens, nor is it that many who ask for a book are usually with the answer that is not available because it simply has not arrived, which does not happen in other libraries in the municipality, "says Hernandez, who proposes a recurring solution.

"It is necessary to build a new library, without architectural barriers and well equipped, and we remember that a total of 14 million euros have been approved for investments to be undertaken in districts, which were included in the 2017 budgets at the request of the Municipal Socialist Group. that amount should leave the money to execute this work, which takes years of delay, and the ideal place for it is that of the old schools, "recalls the Socialist spokeswoman.

In addition, through a motion that will defend in the plenary next Thursday, will urge the government team to "urgently" cover the address of the library of El Palmar and provide the center, which is obsolete, all that inventoryable material that is lacking today, such as computers, which can then be transferred to the new center.
