Presentation of the II Industrial Barometer COGITI (21/09/2018)

In this presentation have also been made public data II Industrial Barometer COGITI, which highlights the vision that Murcia engineers have the industrial situation of our Community, in which 76.56% say it is very good and have a promising future.

However, there is widespread discontent throughout Spain with the measures taken by national and regional administrations.

Engineers demand a reduction in energy costs, more investment in innovation and development, as well as more promotion of industrial entrepreneurship.

In this act has also presented, the International Chair of Engineering and Industrial Policy COGITI of the UCAM.

The Royal Academy of Engineering has presented today, in Madrid, the International Chair of Engineering and Industrial Policy COGITI of the UCAM, in addition to the II Industrial Barometer prepared by the General Council of Industrial Technical Engineering of Spain, which has been attended by the president of the San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia, José Luis Mendoza.

"The UCAM will start up the Technological Institute of Madrid, as well as training in Engineering such as Electromechanics or Postgraduate training. With this Chair we want to collaborate in the development of the industrial sector, we want to promote these studies, in addition to encouraging young people to to study Engineering, so we are going to launch a training campaign in schools, from an early age ".

The International Chair of Engineering and Industrial Policy COGITI UCAM will launch the Master in Energy Transition, Master in Product Design Engineering and Innovation Management, both in the process of accreditation and an Industrial MBA and another MBA Product Management.

The secretary of this Chair and dean of the Official College of Industrial Technical Engineers of the Region of Murcia, César Nicolás has assured that the objective of this Chair is not to adapt only to the requirements of engineers, but also to those of society , as well as those of industry and companies across the country.

For this reason, one of the pillars on which it relies is the Technological Institute of Murcia of the UCAM, directed by Nicolás, and that has an important trajectory, boosting the industrial and technological sector of the Region.

"This Chair is a boost in research and collaboration in training and entrepreneurship projects in the industrial sector, among the activities of the Chair we have scheduled technical seminars, training seminars and the creation of an 'International Forum on Industrial Policy and Development' where a committee of experts will analyze and debate on industrial policies and how to favor the development of national GDP in this area, a sector that aims to reach 20% of GDP as the EU brand, but still not reach 16%.

One of the first actions that it will carry out will be to collaborate, next year, with the General Council of Industrial Technical Engineering in the elaboration of the III Industrial Barometer COGITI, collecting and analyzing the data of the industrial collegiate of the Region.

This barometer, developed by the General Council of Industrial Technical Engineering (COGITI) aims to know the perception of engineers about the industrial sector.

"This report is intended to provide relevant data of interest in decision-making, both for representatives of the public sphere and for the private sector" according to José Antonio Galdón Ruiz, president of COGITI.

In general, this second barometer reflects a somewhat more optimistic view than that corresponding to 2017, since 75% of engineers surveyed consider that the situation of the industry in Spain is positive, compared to 55% last year.

However, its assessment is more negative when it refers to the situation of the industry in their respective regions, except for the Region of Murcia, which highlights a high percentage (76.56%) of the surveyed members, which ensures the situation industrial in our Community is good.

Report of the Barometer for the Region of Murcia.

The data provided by this II Industrial Barometer on the situation in the Region of Murcia reflect a positive trend:

89% of the Engineers of our Community consider that the current employment situation in Spain is good.

A percentage that contrasts with that obtained in the rest of the communities, since in the whole of Spain only 56.22% consider that the industrial situation of our country is positive.

If we look at the data obtained on the current situation of the industry in the respective regions, in the whole country, 56.22% of engineers consider that the situation in their region is positive.

A fact that contrasts with the response of industrial engineers in the Region of Murcia, which at € 76.56 considers the industrial situation in our Community as good or very good.

Another data that demonstrates this optimistic tendency is the feeling of great job stability of Murcian engineers, since 89.85% of the surveyed members consider it quite likely to keep their job.

However, the perception of the engineers consulted on the incentives to the industry promoted by the Administrations at national and regional level is unfavorable.

As it happened in 2017, there is widespread discontent with the measures and actions that are being carried out.

At a national level, 55.31% rate them negatively, a figure that decreases slightly in the Murcia Region, reaching 53%.

7% of surveyed engineers across the country are unemployed and their prospects of finding a job in the short term are acceptable or good at 51.72%.

while for the remaining 47.96% the trend is negative

Among the measures proposed by engineers to improve the industrial sector, stand out in the first place the stability and lowering of energy costs, followed by the need to provide aid for investment in innovation and development, as well as industrial entrepreneurship.

The presentation of the II Industrial Barometer and the International Chair of Engineering and Industrial Policy COGITI UCAM has been sheltered by the representatives of the main Official Associations of Engineers of the country, from different sectors such as Chemical, Electrical or Biochemical.
