The University of Murcia (UMU) has given this Friday the welcome to the foreign students who will study this year in the institution as part of the different international programs that are developed.
The Romea Theater has been the scene of the official welcome ceremony, in which both the rector of the UMU, José Luján, and the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, have welcomed the students and invited them to take full advantage of the experience. Enjoy the Region.
This academic year nine hundred foreign students will pass through the University of Murcia thanks to the internationalization programs.
Seven hundred of them have begun this semester their classes and in the month of January will arrive another two hundred more.
Most of the students benefit from the Erasmus + program, to which 550 of the young people who visit us belong.
On the part of the University of Murcia, more than 800 students will make their stays in the more than 300 European, American, Asian and African partner universities throughout the course.
Regarding Latin America, the mobilities are mainly given by the Interchange with Latin America (ILA) program in which 70 Murcian students will participate.
For the same program and for the first semester the University of Murcia will receive 55 Latin American students, expecting others for the second semester.
In addition, the UMU has different agreements with ministries and institutions for which it receives scholars from Latin America:
MESCYT: 20 master students
Carolina Foundation: 7 master's scholars
Swallow Scholarships: scholarships for academic stays of degree
AUIP: 3 Ibero-American teachers will complete their PhD at UM
Mobility with the United States, which is mainly carried out through the ISEP program, has increased to 21 outbound and 22 outbound students thanks to new agreements with American universities.
From Asian countries and mainly through the agreement with the Communication University of China the UMU will have 7 new students.
In addition, he will receive one more student thanks to a new agreement with the Taiwanese university of Tamkang.
The Erasmus + International Mobility program will allow this course the reception of 39 students from different countries of the world, such as Angola, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Costa Rica, China, Japan, Indonesia, Morocco, Thailand, Taiwan, Tunisia and Vietnam.
Under the Erasmus + Practices program, 30 students will be released in the first semester and it is expected that up to a hundred UMU students will travel throughout the course to stay in European companies.
On the other hand, the Faculty of Education will offer 12 places of practice.
Finally, there is a place at the University of Bolivia for the Master in Psychology of Social Intervention.
Activities of the International Welcome of the University of Murcia
With the official act of welcome held at the Teatro Romea, the activities of the International Welcome Week of the University of Murcia (BUMI) begin, which will end on September 30th.
An excursion to Cartagena, a day at the beach in Calarreona, knowing the 'classic Murcia', a route through the museums, a tapas route and a trip to Granada are the main activities that the participants can enjoy.
The BUMI is organized by the Vice-rectorship of Internationalization and in which the City Council of Murcia collaborates with the international student association Erasmus Student Network (ESN).
