Huermur requests protection for the finds found next to the location of the old Alcazar of the 13th century in Murcia (18/06/2018)

The association demands the integral protection of all the remains found next to the Monastery of Santa Clara la Real in the historic center of Murcia, where formerly it was located the historic Moslem Keep Alcázar of the thirteenth century and part of the old suburb of the Arrixaca.

Huermur asks the City of Murcia to stop buried under the concrete the history of Murcia, as has happened with all the remains found earlier in the works of Alfonso X, and which Huermur is still waiting for the reports of the Consistory.

The Association for the Conservation of the Huerta and the Heritage of Murcia, HUERMUR, asks the City Council for the integral protection of the archaeological remains that are appearing this week next to the location of the old Alcázar Keep Moslem of the 13th century, and where today it is located the Monastery of Santa Clara la Real of the XIV-XVIII century.

These important findings, of which some thick walls stand out, have been discovered during the remodeling works of Avenida Alfonso X in Murcia, which is being carried out by the Consistory of the capital.

On the morning of today members of Huermur have appeared next to the great open ditch in the street Santa Clara in the historic center of the city of Murcia, to see first-hand the scope of what was found ..

From Huermur indicate that it is necessary that the City of Murcia and its leaders consider what they are doing with the archaeological heritage of the city center, since everything that has appeared so far in the municipal works of Alfonso X has ended under the concrete , something totally inadmissible and less to be a municipal works.

As an example, the conservationist association cites the remains of the Old Palace of Los Vélez, which has now been buried under concrete and crossed by pipes and pipes without any touch or protection.

For Huermur no more beautiful words or declarations of intentions are worth, that end up in situations like this, since not everything is solved with a geotextile and concrete.

Finally, Huermur requires the Ministry of Culture to intervene in this situation and oblige the City Council to conserve the remains that are appearing in this area of high archaeological impact, and stop looking the other way.

Huermur will also request the technical reports of all the works and findings both to the City Council and the Autonomous Community.
