Murcia now urges the PP to make the casino comply once the heritage law and the cultural agreement (20/05/2018)

- The Law requires that you open for free at least 4 days a month, while the Agreement includes the programming of activities jointly between the City Council and the Casino, and that the 'fish tanks' on the ground floor are part of the circuit of visits

NOW MURCIA urges the PP to make the Casino de Murcia comply once, after 13 years of non-compliance, the Heritage Law and the Cultural Agreement.

Angeles Micol says that the City Council "has been lustrums without worrying that all Murcia and Murcia enjoy the Casino according to what they mark the legislation and the agreement signed between the Consistory and the cultural entity in 2005. The PP has not veiled all these years for the interest of citizens, but has left the private institution act at will, to the point of not worrying about the respect for the law and the agreement, which protect the interest of Murcia and Murcia, something instead, the Government of the PP has done ".

Given this situation, the council demands the PP to leave the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Casino Convention, which will be held next Wednesday, with the commitment of the cultural entity to comply once with their regulatory obligations.

Micol points out that the first meeting of said Commission, since the 2005 agreement, was held last November, following the motion taken to the Plenary by Ahora Murcia a few months earlier and approved by all the groups.

The motion established that the Casino comply, as established by the Law of Spanish Historical Heritage and Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia, the obligation to open for free at least 4 days a month, setting and announcing in advance said days.

These obligations derive from the fact that the Casino is a National Historic-Artistic Monument and a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC).

In addition to what the law establishes, the Agreement between the City Council and the Casino, called for collaboration for the implementation of the project of rehabilitation and restoration of the Casino and the determination of its public, social and cultural uses, establishes that the ground floor of the Casino "must be used for the celebration of cultural events jointly determined by the City of Murcia and the Murcia Casino Society within the Commission", something that, as noted by Micol, has not been met either, since the Consistory does not take participates actively in the programming of the activities of the entity.

The mayor of Now Murcia highlights that another point of the agreement has been breached, which states that "the dependencies of the ground floor known as the fish tanks, without prejudice to the use that is customary, will be integrated into the circuit of tourist visits (... ) ", since visitors are currently discouraged from accessing said rooms and are totally prohibited if there is at least one member inside them.

Micol recalls that "the renovation of the building was carried out based on an urban agreement signed by the City Council, as compensation for the urban development activities carried out by the developers, the final cost of the rehabilitation was about 10 million euros, that assumes that each inhabitant of Murcia has paid more than 23 euros for the rehabilitation of the Casino and even then they are forced to pay to enjoy it.If the Casino continues without fulfilling its obligations, we will demand the return of those 10 million euros with the corresponding interests ".
